Development Squad

Development Squad swimming lessons are designed for children generally from the age of 8+. At this level, stamina, distance and further technique is developed in all 4 strokes: freestyle, backstroke, butterfly and breaststroke. Focus is on developing good technique, efficiency, strength and consistency through the water. This level also provides students with the tools engage in competitive swimming environments for the first time. All starts and finishes in each stroke are introduced and developed. Dev. Squad is conducted in the 50m pool and permits a maximum of 8 students per teacher. Upon completion of this level, students will progress onto our Advanced Development Squad level!

Students are required to bring their own training fins (please enquire for the appropriate type) and water bottle to each session.

Swim lessons run for the duration of 60 minutes at the scheduled time each week for the duration of the relevant term: Choose from 1, 2 or even 3 lessons per week.

Students will learn to:

  • Swim freestyle and breathe on both sides with precise technique
  • Build up swimming freestyle to a minimum 200m unassisted without stopping
  • Backstroke unassisted (minimum 200m unassisted without stopping with good technique)
  • Backstroke finishes
  • Start dives off the block in freestyle, butterfly & breaststroke
  • Somersault from standing position
  • Butterfly kick and stroke developed
  • Breaststroke arms with breaststroke kick developed
  • Medleys introduced
